Bangsboruten is a 13 km hiking route through the hilly landscape around Bangsbo, south of Frederikshavn. The route is one of Hærvejens Perler and takes you through woodland, across moraine hills and up to some of the area's finest viewpoints. With around 340 metres of elevation gain, there are several good climbs along the way, and the hike takes approximately four hours. Only around 780 metres of the route are on asphalt, while the rest mainly follows natural and gravel paths.

The route is signposted in both directions and takes you through a landscape shaped by the forces of the Ice Age. Along the way, you will encounter geological features, woodland, wildlife and cultural history. If you prefer a shorter walk, you can use shortcuts marked on the route map and on information boards along the trail.

Views from Pikkerbakken and Cloostårnet

Along the route, you climb to Pikkerbakken and Cloostårnet, where wide views open up across the Kattegat, Frederikshavn, the forests and the rolling hills of Vendsyssel. The many changes in elevation give Bangsboruten its varied character and make the views a natural part of the hiking experience.

Bangsbo Fort and traces of history

At Bangsbo Fort, you can explore bunkers and gun emplacements from the Second World War and the Cold War. Its elevated position above the coast also gives you a clear sense of the area's strategic importance and connects the landscape closely with its history.

Wildlife in Bangsbo Dyrehave

Bangsboruten passes through Bangsbo Dyrehave, where red deer and fallow deer live in the enclosed woodland area. The animals roam freely and are not tame, so keep a safe distance and leave them undisturbed. The large stags in particular should be observed from a respectful distance.

Bangsbo Hovedgård and Botanisk Have

At Bangsbo Hovedgård, you can explore the area's cultural history in the historic buildings that are now home to Kystmuseet Bangsbo. Surrounding the manor is Botanisk Have, which includes an English-inspired park, a rose garden, a medicinal herb garden and a herb garden. You can also visit Stenhaven nearby and gain a closer insight into the geological history of the landscape.
