From Thursday to Sunday, Skagen sets the scene for a winter festival centred around the contrast between the cold sea and the warmth of the sauna. Take a dip in the blue waves at Sønderstrand before warming up in the saunas set up close to the beach. Here, you can alternate between refreshing sea swims and soothing sauna heat while enjoying views of the Skagen coastline and winter sky.

Skagen Vinterbaderfestival brings together winter swimmers from across Denmark, with a strong sense of community at the heart of the experience. Whether you are used to cold-water dips or simply want to experience the atmosphere surrounding winter bathing, the festival offers time by the sea, cosy activities and a chance to discover Skagen during a different season.

Winter bathing and sauna at Sønderstrand

At Sønderstrand, you can experience the contrast between the cold waters of the Kattegat and the warmth of the saunas. The open beach, the sea and Skagen’s distinctive light create an atmospheric setting for the festival, while the saunas offer a welcoming place to warm up between dips.

Festival wristband for Skagen Vinterbaderfestival

A festival wristband gives you access to the festival’s winter bathing and saunas as well as a selection of activities during your stay in Skagen. The programme includes a guided walk through the town, giving you the opportunity to experience Skagen together with other participants.

The festival wristband also includes warm skibberlabskovs and glühwein in the garden at Skagens Museum. On Sunday, the festival concludes with soup on the beach, where participants can gather after several days of cold dips, warm moments and winter experiences in Skagen.
