Maskinrummet Skagen (The Engine Room)

Step inside Maskinrummet Skagen and explore Denmark’s largest private engine collection. Daily guided tours and live engine starts offer a sensory journey for all ages.

The Collection at Maskinrummet

At Maskinrummet Skagen you can get up close to engine and maritime history. The exhibit features stationary, marine, gas, petrol and diesel engines from brands such as BUKH, B&W and Frich, plus Carl Benz’s first automobile (1886) and Ford’s Quadricycle (1896). Spread across two halls totaling 2,000 m², the collection includes over 1,000 related maritime and agricultural artifacts.

Experiences and Guided Tours

Book a guided tour to see the staff fire up the engines while telling the stories behind the technology, history and applications. You’ll experience the scents of petrol and diesel as nameplates, tools, ship hatches and enamel signs bring Skagen’s maritime and fishing heritage to life.

Special Exhibitions and Events

In the summer season (6 June–7 September) you can also board the post boat Tunø, departing daily at 11:30 and 14:00. Maskinrummet hosts annual events such as the Easter gathering, flea markets, American car meets and concerts—check their Facebook page for the latest updates.

Partnerships and Future Plans

Plesners Badehotel offers accommodation and dining, perfect for combining an overnight stay with your visit. The new Maskinrummet Experience Center is scheduled to open Easter 2026 and will feature even more interactive exhibits.
