Guided tour of Frederikshavn War Cemetery

Embark on an atmospheric and thought-provoking guided tour that tells the story of Frederikshavn War Cemetery and the fates of many people from the Second World War.

During the occupation of Denmark from 1940 to 1945, the German occupying forces established a war cemetery at the Frederikshavn cemetery. Here, 1,529 war victims found their final resting place – including Allied airmen, German soldiers and German civilian refugees.

On this tour, museum educator Kenneth Kristensen talks about the creation of the war cemetery, burial customs during the occupation, and the role of the cemetery during and after the war. The tour provides a nuanced insight into the traces left by the war in the region and the many human destinies associated with this place.
