White Cube follows the artist Renzo Martens and the artists’ collective Cercle d’Art des Travailleurs de Plantation Congolaise (CATPC), which consists of plantation workers from a former Unilever plantation in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. Through their art, they are creating a new economic model in which the proceeds from the sale of their works are used to buy back the land and restore the areas previously exploited for monoculture.

The film explores colonial legacy, power, representation and the role of art in society. These themes are also central to Frida Orupabo’s art, in which historical images and narratives are reinterpreted to make space for voices and experiences that have all too often been overlooked.
