Join us on a fascinating journey back through the history of medicine as the Guided Tour of the Pharmacy Collection opens its doors to one of Aalborg’s most unique collections. In the attic of Jens Bang’s Stone House, you’ll find stories of old medicines, curious concoctions and several hundred years of pharmacy history
Experience a truly special guided tour of the Apothecary Collection, tucked away in the attic of the historic Jens Bang’s Stone House, dating from 1624. Here, you’ll gain a unique insight into how medicine and the art of pharmacy have evolved over the centuries, and you’ll get a close-up look at the stories behind some of the more unusual treatment methods of the past.
On the guided tour, you’ll discover ancient medicines and exotic ingredients such as green beetles, whale oil and deer’s blood, which were once used in the world of medicine. You’ll also have the chance to explore an impressive collection of counters, jars, glassware, apparatus and other pharmacy fittings from the iconic Svane Pharmacy.
For almost 350 years, the building housed a chemist’s shop, and over the years, generations of chemists have stored items in the loft. This has resulted in a unique historical collection, in which more than 3,000 different medicinal products and remedies tell the story of the chemist’s shop’s development from the 17th century to the present day.
