Damer der var for meget – En ny fortælling om kvinderne i kunsthistorien (Women Who Were Too Much – A New Account of Women in Art History)
For a long time, we have told the story of women in the arts as the story of those who were denied a place. But when you delve into letters, diaries and papers left behind, a far more nuanced picture emerges of women who made a living from their art, travelled the world and built remarkable careers.

In this talk, author and literary historian Sara Alfort takes you back to the late 19th century, when a group of Scandinavian women travelled across Europe to paint, exhibit their work and make a living from their art. They forged artistic careers for themselves and insisted on a way of life that defied the expectations of the time regarding what a woman could and ought to be.
Drawing on the books *When the Trees Grew into the Sky*, *Ladies Who Were Too Much* and *Ladies Who’d Had Enough*, Sara Alfort shows why we need a new narrative about the place of female artists in art history.
