Christmas in Gammelby – Christmas at the Square

During November and December, the streets of Sæby and the town square, Torvet, are filled with Christmas atmosphere. Festive lights, small Christmas trees, straw bales and cosy Christmas huts set the scene, accompanied by the scent of roasted almonds, klejner, gløgg and æbleskiver. Christmas music plays in the pedestrian streets, while selected days feature concerts, processions and seasonal activities for children and adults.

Christmas lights and the Christmas tree in Sæby

The town's Christmas lights are switched on on 13 November. On Friday 20 November, Santa Claus arrives at Torvet on a fire engine. A Christmas concert and parade through the town begin at 17.30, followed by the lighting of the Christmas tree at 18.15. Children can also collect bags of sweets by Santa's house.

Christmas activities in November

Friday 27 November brings Black Friday with extended shopping hours, a visit from Bimse og Bamse and free hotdogs at the hotdog stand. On Saturday 28 November, you can meet Santa Claus and his elves as well as Bimse og Bamse and buy festive treats from the Christmas huts.

Concerts, choirs and Lucia in December

On 4 December, Sæby Garden performs a Christmas concert at Torvet, while Bimse og Bamse and Santa Claus with his elves are also part of the programme. On 5 December, Sæby Garden's Christmas ensemble performs around the town, and FarmFun offers horse-drawn carriage rides. On 6 December, MAS Koret welcomes Christmas with song, while the shops are open for Sunday shopping.

On 12 December, Santa Claus and his elves return alongside Bimse og Bamse. On 13 December, Friskolen takes part in a Lucia procession starting at Nordjyske Bank. The shops are also open, and the familiar Christmas characters can once again be found at Torvet.

Christmas atmosphere in the days before Christmas Eve

On 19 December, Sæby Kirke presents Christmas storytelling and songs, while Santa Claus and Bimse og Bamse also appear. On 20 December, the shops are open for Sunday shopping, Sæby Garden's Christmas ensemble performs around the town, and you can meet Santa Claus and Bimse og Bamse.

On 21, 22 and 23 December, several activities are repeated: Sæby Garden's Christmas ensemble performs around the town, Santa Claus and his elves are in their house, and Bimse og Bamse hand out Christmas treats. The Christmas huts also sell seasonal treats on the days when Santa Claus is present. The activity calendar is indicative, and changes to the programme may occur.
