Christmas exhibition at Aalborg Historiske Museum
Explore 50 years of popular Christmas presents at Aalborg Historiske Museum. From fondue sets and Rubik’s Cube to fitness watches and air fryers, the exhibition looks back at changing Christmas wishes in Denmark.

What have people in Denmark hoped to find under the Christmas tree during the past 50 years? From 3 November through 23 December 2026, Aalborg Historiske Museum presents the Christmas exhibition Årets julegave gennem 50 år. Popular presents from five decades provide a nostalgic look at changing trends, everyday life and the things that have appeared on Christmas wish lists over the years.
The exhibition ranges from fondue sets to fitness watches and air fryers. In their own way, the presents tell a story about developments in Denmark without focusing on politics or wars. Instead, recognition and memories take centre stage as popular Christmas gifts from earlier decades reappear. You may even spot something you once received or always hoped to find under the tree.
Christmas presents, games and nostalgia
The Christmas gift hits are displayed alongside period Christmas decorations, helping recreate the atmosphere of the decades they represent. Together, the presents and decorations offer a festive journey through changing Christmas traditions and familiar memories.
You can also try some of the presents yourself. Test your skills with Rubik’s Cube, which was a hit in 1980, or sit down with games that became popular Christmas presents. Trivial Pursuit was a hit in 1985, UNO in 1987 and Lykkehjulet in 1989. You can also play with a Baby Born doll, which appeared in 1997, try a fidget spinner from 2017 or test fitness equipment from the 1980s.
Opening hours for the Christmas exhibition
In November 2026, Aalborg Historiske Museum is open Tuesday to Saturday from 10:00 to 17:00. The museum is closed on Sundays and Mondays.
In December 2026, the museum is open Monday to Saturday from 10:00 to 17:00 and closed on Sundays. The Christmas exhibition runs through 23 December 2026.
