Christmas begins in Vinterby Østerby
On 15 November 2025, the Christmas lights in Vinterby Østerby will be switched on when the district is transformed into a special Christmas universe.
Østerby, a unique part of Skagen where history meets the present, is decorated with Christmas trees and lights, and Christmas is marked with singing, Christmas sweets and a large, beautiful Christmas tree by the Water Tower.
Inspired by Viggo Johansen's iconic painting Merry Christmas from 1891, which can be seen at Skagen Museum this winter, Østerby is filled with Christmas spirit, lights and decorations that create a cosy atmosphere in the winding streets. The town's historic houses, speciality shops and iconic institutions form the setting for the event, where the charm of the past meets the Christmas experiences of today.
A walk through Vinterby Østerby offers a glimpse of Skagen's cultural heritage from the fishing village's history to the neighbourhood's present as a quality-filled oasis and invites everyone to experience the magic of Christmas in the heart of the city.
