Cafe KOX

In the centre of Brønderslev, you’ll find CAFE KOX – a social enterprise café that combines culinary experiences with social objectives. The café is run by AOF Vendsyssel and aims to strengthen the community and create new opportunities for young people and adults on the margins of the labour market. Here, staff have the opportunity to develop their professional skills, find job satisfaction and build self-esteem in a safe environment that embraces diversity.

The menu at CAFE KOX reflects the love and care that go into the day-to-day work. Dishes are prepared from scratch, often using local and organic ingredients. You can enjoy your meal in the atmospheric café, in the cosy courtyard – or take it home as takeaway. The menu offers both classic and modern dishes, with a focus on quality and fine craftsmanship.

Experienced kitchen management

The café’s kitchen is led by Joan Hvirring Jensen, who was previously head chef at Arena Nord in Frederikshavn and, most recently, manager at Hotel Nygaard on Læsø. She works closely with her staff to ensure both professional development and staff involvement – for example, in the design of the menu.

At CAFE KOX, the focus is on reducing food waste and sorting rubbish. The café plans its purchasing and food preparation with a view to minimising food waste and uses packaging with a focus on material selection. Rubbish is systematically sorted so that materials can be processed and recycled wherever possible.

Huset Kox – shop and workshop

As part of AOF Region Nordjylland’s social enterprise initiatives, CAFE KOX also runs Huset Kox in Hjallerup. Here you’ll find a selection of handmade products such as wooden boxes and homemade seasoned salts – an inspiring complement to the café’s concept.
