Bannerslund Trail – From Plantation to Coast

The trail begins in Bannerslund Plantation, where you quickly find yourself surrounded by tall spruce trees and bright beech woodland. Here, you'll find a picnic shelter and plenty of seating – perfect for a coffee break before setting off on the walk.

Kasper noticed how the sounds change as you enter the plantation. Birdsong and the wind rustling through the treetops gradually replace the noise of traffic, creating an immediate sense of peace and making you feel much farther from town than you actually are.

A little further along the trail, the first birdwatching tower is tucked away behind bushes and trees, making it easy to miss unless you keep an eye out for it. Climb to the top for views across the open meadows and surrounding landscape.

Kasper enjoyed the sense of peace up here. It’s the perfect spot to observe the local birdlife, from lapwings and geese to small songbirds hiding among the reeds. While the scenery is not dramatic, there is something special about the atmosphere in the tower.

The trail continues along quiet gravel roads and across open fields, where the Elling River winds its way through the landscape. Here, you walk sheltered by low embankments and thickets, with only birdsong and the breeze rustling through the grass breaking the silence.

Kasper highlighted this as one of the most peaceful sections of the route. There is a special atmosphere here – a space between forest and sea where nature is allowed to be quiet, unhurried, and entirely itself.

Shortly before reaching the beach, the second birdwatching tower comes into view – a small wooden tower standing in the open landscape. From here, you can catch a glimpse of the sea on the horizon and enjoy a great overview of the meadows and river valley.

Kasper stopped here for a snack break and spent some time listening to the birds around him. It is a peaceful spot to sit for a while and take in the subtle movements of the landscape.

Before long, the trail opens up towards the sea. At the peaceful Strandby Beach, you can kick off your shoes and stroll through the shallow water, or simply pause and take in the view of the horizon. The beach is wide and open, with dunes and seaweed lining the shore, making it an ideal place to relax and enjoy a break on warmer days.

From the beach, continue directly to Strandby Harbour, where fishing boats and pleasure craft bob gently in the water. There is often a lively atmosphere here, and if you're lucky, you may even be able to buy freshly caught fish to take home.

It’s a great place to soak up the local maritime atmosphere and reflect on the day’s experiences. You might even want to round off your walk with an ice cream or a refreshing cold drink.

The third birdwatching tower is located at the harbour and offers surprisingly good views of the town, the harbour, and the open sea. On clear days, you can even spot the Hirsholm Islands on the horizon.

Kasper recommends climbing the final steps and spending five minutes here before ending your walk. The tower feels like a natural conclusion to a day spent exploring forest, coastline, and local culture – a place where you can take it all in one last time.

The final stretch of the route takes you through Strandby Town, where small signs along the way share stories from the area's local history – including tales of the Strandby Viking treasure and Tordenskjold’s visit to the region.

Kasper made his way back to the station, where the walk comes to an end. He described the Bannerslund Trail as “a peaceful and varied route that combines forest, beach, and history in a single memorable walk.”
