Frontrunner in sustainability

We work to support the UN Sustainable Development Goals. This means that we strive to ensure that all congresses and conferences incorporate sustainable practices in all activities before, during and after the conference, making sustainability the standard - not an option.

Aalborg is a member of the world-leading Global Destination Sustainability Index, which annually assesses and ranks convention destinations based on their sustainability performance and efforts. Due to an increased focus and diligent efforts on sustainable practices within social, environmental and economic sustainability, Aalborg jumped 13 places on the index - from 18th place in 2018 to an impressive 5th place in 2019. This means that Aalborg is now a frontrunner as an international and sustainable congress destination.

We will provide you with concrete and useful knowledge and inspiration on how to plan and organise a large conference, meeting or congress in North Jutland with a greater focus on sustainability.

Accessibility is top notch

Some cities are huge and bustling metropolises, others small and cosy. And then there's Aalborg, which is just the right size. The city is large enough to accommodate congresses and conferences with up to 2,000 participants, while still being affordable and easy to get around. Take a walk along the vibrant waterfront and discover the many things Aalborg has to offer. When you hold your event in Aalborg, you don't even need public transport, taxis or shuttle buses for social events. In Aalborg, you can walk to and from accommodation, venues and social activity facilities within 10-20 minutes. Alternatively, it's easy to use the city's many cycle paths, making it convenient for visitors to experience the many destinations on a city bike. If you arrive at Aalborg Airport, we recommend you hop on an electric bus right outside the door and you'll arrive in the city centre within 10 minutes.

Certified facilities

In Aalborg we have a wide selection of green hotels and restaurants. The vast majority of hotel rooms are certified according to international hotel standards such as Green Key or the Nordic Swan Ecolabel, where hotels must meet specific environmental requirements that also ensure that you as a guest in Aalborg can stay in the city in a sustainable way. In addition, many of Aalborg's restaurants focus on ecology, local produce and minimising food waste.

AKKC sets the bar high

Aalborg is home to Aalborg Kongres & Kultur Center, which is the first and only congress centre in Denmark to be certified according to the international ISO standard 20121 for sustainable events. At AKKC, they want to create value for people and the environment by working with sustainability based on three focus areas: AKKC's behaviour, AKKC's operations and AKKC's physical environment. With up to 500,000 annual visitors and 1,000 annual events, the congress centre is one of the largest and most flexible in Scandinavia.
