Street art - Frida Stiil Vium - Arkivstræde 1
Aalborg’s many stories brought together in a single work of art entitled “History in Our Footsteps”. In the stairwell of the Aalborg City Archives, the past, present and future converge in a new, site-specific work of art created by the Aalborg-based street artist Frida Stiil Vium.
The artwork spans four walls and draws on Aalborg’s many stories. Here, the city’s major historical events are interwoven with the smaller, everyday moments which, together, have shaped Aalborg and its identity over time. The inspiration comes from the collection of the Aalborg City Archives, which has been transformed into a cohesive visual universe.
The work explores the traces that we, as people, leave on the city across generations. The stories exist side by side as layers in a living visual narrative, where Aalborg’s working life, culture, contrasts and contemporary expressions converge. The structure is not chronological. Instead, the work allows the past, present and possible futures to merge, creating new connections across time.
Some motifs will be recognisable, whilst others are more interpretative and open to individual associations. Frida Stiil Vium hopes that the work will spark curiosity and invite visitors to explore the details. In this way, one can experience Aalborg and the city’s history in new ways and be inspired by the many stories that continue to shape the city around us.
