Late Picasso
Picasso’s final years were characterised by an insatiable creative energy. Featuring more than 60 works from the 1960s and 1970s – and as the most comprehensive Nordic exhibition of his late works in 40 years – ‘Late Picasso’ will demonstrate how one of the world’s most famous artists never ceased in his quest for innovation.

In his later years, Picasso painted with raw energy and an almost childlike curiosity. The broad, carefree brushstrokes and powerful colours bear witness to an artist who sought new and experimental ways of expressing himself. He returned to motifs from his long life – self-portraits, battle-ready musketeers, loving couples – and reflected on old age, death, love, desire and creativity.
For a long time after Picasso’s death in 1973, the works from this period were overlooked. Picasso’s late works have, however, been re-evaluated and are today regarded as groundbreaking. They have also inspired later generations of artists.
‘Late Picasso’ is a unique opportunity to experience this special period in Picasso’s art.
