The town is named after Queen Charlotte Amalie, who acquired Dronninglund Castle, originally a nunnery, in 1690. Today, the castle is the setting for romantic castle stays, weddings and other large parties, exhibitions and other events. It is also possible to simply enjoy a fine dining experience in royal surroundings in the castle restaurant Prinsesse Sophie Hedvig.
